Why We Named It Emma’s Laundromat

Emma’s Laundromat isn’t just a place to do laundry—it’s a living tribute to the people and values that shaped us.

Our laundromat is named after my mother, Emma Welch—a remarkable woman whose story spans continents and cultures. Born in Mexico to Lebanese parents, Emma brought together the best of both worlds: the hospitality and warmth of Lebanon with the color, heart, and grit of Mexico. She moved to the United States not knowing a word of English, but that never held her back. She met my dad, started a family, and lived a life full of adventure—from California to Maine, to El Paso, and even back to Mexico, where she and my dad opened a pizza restaurant.

When I was 16, my parents made that move to Mexico. It was my senior year of high school, and I didn’t want to leave. Thankfully, I had the blessing of living with my best friend, Colby Seamster. His family—Elgie, Hollie, Colby, and his brother Aaron—took me in as one of their own. Over the years, the Seamster family was like my second family and Aaron and Colby were my brothers from another mother. Aaron is now my business partner in Emma’s Laundromat.
